Chamomile- A Gentle Soother

chamomile

Chamomile, Soothes Naturally.

Chamomile is a beautiful small white flower that grows is clusters.  In some gardens it is used as a fragrant ground cover, and some very blessed people even have chamomile lawns!  However; most people are unaware of the powerful soothing qualities of chamomile.  Coupled with the fact that it is inexpensive and the dried herb is easy to store, chamomile is truly a “must have” for natural first aid. (NOTE: If you have allergies to daisies, you may wish to use caution when using chamomile.)  These are just a few conditions that benefit from this gentle soother:- Eczema- a strong chamomile tea can be used directly on the skin to soothe the itching commonly associated with eczema.  (Use 2 teabags or 4 teaspoons to one cup of hot water.  Steep 15 minutes, and apply to a clean cloth or gauze, and lay it directly on the affected area for 10-15 minutes, repeat as needed)- Red Irritated Eyes- Steep two teabags in one cup of hot distilled water.  Place the wet teabags on your eyes for 10 minutes.  You may also use the cooled tea to irrigate your eyes. (Or just sip on it while you wait.)-Sleep Aid- A cup of chamomile tea before bedtime is a time honored ritual for encouraging restful sleep.  Chamomile is safe for children as well.- Stomach Upset- Peter Rabbit’s mommy was right!  A cup of chamomile tea is a great remedy for stomach aches and other gastrointestinal disturbances.  If the problem is chronic (lasts for extended periods of time), or is accompanied with bleeding, chest tightening or difficulty breathing you should seek the advice of a trained medical professional immediately.-Itchy Scalp- A strong infusion of chamomile tea, is a great way to relieve itchy scalp.  Steep 4 teabags in a liter of hot water for 30 minutes.  Wash hair using liquid castile soap and rinse.  Pour the warm (NOT HOT) tea on your scalp and leave on for 5 minutes.  Rinse and let your hair air dry.
