Eat Fresh Produce? You Need One of These!

Remove Dirt and Germs Easily

Most of the fruits and vegetables we buy are sprayed with toxic chemicals to protect them from pest and fungal attacks. After they are harvested, they are coated with wax/oil to prevent decay and to preserve the quality and appearance of the produce during transportation. Our produce travels hundreds of miles and passes through many unwashed hands before it reaches your local grocery store so this waxy layer is also host for microorganisms like bacteria, fungi and viruses-including Salmonella.

There are many products on the market that claim to “clean” the exterior of our produce, but they leave the waxy layer and the toxic chemical cocktail that lays underneath completely intact. Studies show that celery, peaches, strawberries, apples, blueberries, nectarines, bell peppers, greens (including spinach, kale and collards), cherries, potatoes, grapes and lettuces all have a high level of residual pesticides on their surfaces. Ideally, it is best to buy the organic options of the listed produce, however; whether due to price or availability organics simply are not an option for most. But the solution is available to anyone: The Norwex Fruit and Veggie Scrub Cloth.

Over the years, I have had the opportunity to test many solutions from spray cleaners to produce “washing machines” and none have given the results or this amazing cloth. The Veggie and Fruit Scrub Cloth is superb quality and is the perfect solution for cleaning most fruits and vegetables. The microfiber (1/200th the size of a human hair) traps dirt, germs and debris as well as removing the waxy covering to give you that “down to the skin clean”.  It is simple to use, just wet with water, wring out and wipe.

In my book The Pennywize Vegetarian-The “How-To” Guide for Better Eating on a Budget, I wrote about the need to clean produce, that you plan to cut or peel. The recent Salmonella outbreaks could have been avoided, if people took time to properly clean (not just rinse) the dirt, debris and coatings from their melons before cutting them.  You owe it to yourself and your loved ones to take the needed precautions to eat clean, and with the Veggie and Fruit Scrub Cloth, Norwex makes it easy- and affordable.
