Lakers 2012 Dwight Howard, Steve Nash, Kobe Bryant it's a New DAY!

Olympics 2012? That’s nothing compared to this story: Dwight Howard is a Laker. Well, that’s true at least for Laker fans — and two members of the Los Angeles Times staff who stopped their London Olympics coverage to get very excited about the deal.

“The Lakers, as all of L.A. sees today… are still the Lakers,” said columnist Bill Plaschke in a live discussion Friday. “They’re going for it, and that’s wonderful.”

In the four-team deal, the Lakers surrendered starting center Andrew Bynum to get Howard, all-star center for the Orlando Magic.

The Times’ Lakers beat writer Mike Bresnahan noted in the discussion that he’d just spoken to Pau Gasol, who is in London playing with Spain’s Olympic team. Bresnahan had fully expected Gasol to be a key piece of the deal — but not so.

“He is ecstatic to be back” with the Lakers, Bresnahan said.

Plaschke said Gasol told him the fact that he’s not being traded was “huge” and that he was ready to go forward in, as Plaschke put it, “a completely focused, completely committed state of mind.”

They also tried to get a comment from Serge Ibaka of the Oklahoma City Thunder.  No comment. No surprise?

On the topic of Kobe Bryant:

Sports Editor Mike James noted, “It’s still Kobe’s team. It’s not going to be Kobe’s team much longer.”

Chamomile- A Gentle Soother

chamomile

Chamomile, Soothes Naturally.

Chamomile is a beautiful small white flower that grows is clusters.  In some gardens it is used as a fragrant ground cover, and some very blessed people even have chamomile lawns!  However; most people are unaware of the powerful soothing qualities of chamomile.  Coupled with the fact that it is inexpensive and the dried herb is easy to store, chamomile is truly a “must have” for natural first aid. (NOTE: If you have allergies to daisies, you may wish to use caution when using chamomile.)  These are just a few conditions that benefit from this gentle soother:- Eczema- a strong chamomile tea can be used directly on the skin to soothe the itching commonly associated with eczema.  (Use 2 teabags or 4 teaspoons to one cup of hot water.  Steep 15 minutes, and apply to a clean cloth or gauze, and lay it directly on the affected area for 10-15 minutes, repeat as needed)- Red Irritated Eyes- Steep two teabags in one cup of hot distilled water.  Place the wet teabags on your eyes for 10 minutes.  You may also use the cooled tea to irrigate your eyes. (Or just sip on it while you wait.)-Sleep Aid- A cup of chamomile tea before bedtime is a time honored ritual for encouraging restful sleep.  Chamomile is safe for children as well.- Stomach Upset- Peter Rabbit’s mommy was right!  A cup of chamomile tea is a great remedy for stomach aches and other gastrointestinal disturbances.  If the problem is chronic (lasts for extended periods of time), or is accompanied with bleeding, chest tightening or difficulty breathing you should seek the advice of a trained medical professional immediately.-Itchy Scalp- A strong infusion of chamomile tea, is a great way to relieve itchy scalp.  Steep 4 teabags in a liter of hot water for 30 minutes.  Wash hair using liquid castile soap and rinse.  Pour the warm (NOT HOT) tea on your scalp and leave on for 5 minutes.  Rinse and let your hair air dry.

Affirmations- The Power of Saying "Yes!" to Your Future

Powerful words for powerful change.

Words have to power to hurt or heal.

To affirm something means to testify that it is true, valid and worthy of belief.  We affrim our beliefs (both positive and negative) in our daily lives, in many ways.  We buy our favorite brands because we believe that they are the best, we support our friends because we believe that they are worth it and we campaign against changes in our communities that we believe they will be harmful. Affirmations also shape how we feel about ourselves,  when we listen to the negative thoughts that are placed in our heads by ourselves and others, it manifests itself in our lives.  You know the one, that says: “I don’t know why you would try, you’re not smart enough to do this” or “You don’t deserve to be happy.”  or “You are not the right color/ gender/ age to be successful.”  These become self-fulfilling statements that lead to a spiral of doubt, failure and depression. On the other hand positive affirmations can be used to rocket us to the lives of our dreams.  Just like The Little Engine That Could, if we allow the most influential voice in our head tell us “I know you can do it!” or “You are already successful.” or “You are happy.” then this too will become a self- fulfilling statement.  There are countless stories of people who have overcome unbelievable obstacles to have the lives of their dreams- lives they deserved- simply by using positive affirmations. So here is a challenge to you:  choose the one thing you want to see changed the most in your life.  The one thing that seems like it is weighing heaviest on your heart: got it?  Now think of a positive change that you would like to see in reference to that problem.  Now, turn that concept into a positive affirmation that you will repeat to yourself with commitment, multiple times throughout the day.  Still need help?  Here is an example: Barbara is sick of  feeling lonely.  She has tried to make friends but nothing seems to work.  She decides that the change that she wants to see is to have good and loving friends.  Her affirmation is:”I have good and loving friends.” Notice she states this in the present tense even though it has not yet come to fruition.  She repeats this daily, several times throughout the day, believing the words as she speaks them.  In time she notices how she begins to draw the right people and events lead her to a circle of good and loving friends. A quick note, when negative thoughts, feelings and emotions start creeping in, stop them dead in their tracks, do not feed them and they will die.  Keep your positive affirmations before you and transform your life.  I’d love to hear back from you as you go through this journey, it has literally saved my life and I have seen it transform so many others.  Feel free to connect with me and share your journey as you say “Yes!” to a brighter future!
